"Nothing to Hide," Rebel Souljahz
There’s a popular saying in Hawaii: “On the island, we do it island style.” There’s a popular attitude in the continental U.S., too: “On the mainland, we do it mainland style.” Which is to say sometimes styles and trends are lost in translation. You won’t catch a Californian eating Spam; Hawaiians cannot fathom “slippers” being called sandals.
So it’s safe to assume you have not heard Rebel Souljahz — the Waipahu reggae group that has taken the island of Oahu by storm. The foursome jibs and jives through lively songs that provide a euphonic sound. The jams are mostly about love, with poppy hooks and spirited vocals that make for a celebratory sound.

The music is not especially progressive, or ambitious. It’s just reggae — island style.
