Farrar on the mend

Posted on Fri, Jul 9, 2010 at 8:00 AM

Tyler Farrar finished second place in the sprint finish to Gueugnon this morning, unable to get around the front of Mark Cavendish, who took his second consecutive stage win. That may seem like a bummer, but considering Farrar's broken wrist and banged-up elbow, coming in second and finishing in front of 184 other guys is pretty remarkable.

Over the next four days, Farrar should get a chance to rest his sprint muscles — but not the rest of his body. The Tour heads into the Alps tomorrow (with a rest day on Monday), where the sprinters will take back seat to big names like Armstrong, Contador and Schleck.

Look for another sprint finish next Thursday, as the Tour leaves the Alps and turns toward the Pyrenees.
