Spokane Valley medical marijuana dispensary raided

Posted on Tue, Sep 14, 2010 at 10:01 AM

A Spokane Valley medical marijuana dispensary was raided and shut down by sheriff's detectives earlier this month. They seized six ounces of processed pot. Detectives then moved on to the owner's residence, where they seized 243 plants.

Paul Ellis, who owned MedMarDis, has authorization to use medical marijuana and was not arrested, but detectives did forward the case to the prosecutor's office, recommending a felony count of delivery of a controlled substance. The business, at 7406 E. Sprague Ave., opened last December.

State law allows cannabis patients to grow just 15 plants for personal use. The law also allows a caregiver to grow plants for only one patient. Though the law is vaguely written, Ellis was cultivating far above the allowed amount of marijuana.
