An Eastern Washington town gets a mention by the New York Times this week. Was it Spokane, or maybe the Hanford site, or even Pullman? Nope. It was Ritzville.
Sen. Mark Schoesler, a Republican of Ritzville pictured at right, is profiled as part of a story on the decline of rural lawmakers across the country. And even though Ritzville may be in the "middle of nowhere," the story by Seattle-based reporter William Yardley says Schoesler was able to broker a budget deal as a Republican floor leader with urbanite Seattle Democrats.
