THIS WEEKEND IN MUSIC: Big local hip-hop shows, Weekend, Ellis and more

FRIDAY

Local hip-hop fans may need to go between two shows tonight. The first is RedKing’s beat tape release party at the Phat House. A member of Lilac Linguistics, many of RedKing’s friends and collaboraters will play at the event including Kain Bridge One, Vision Field, Student, Infinite Penz, Jay Ave, Harrow Marks, MaTtH and Kr1sten Wiig. The show starts at 6:30 pm and is $5. Way up north at Swaxx, Unique will perform along with Soundcast, Imperfect Cody, On One, True Justice and Rod Mac. The show is $10 and includes free pizza on a first come, first served basis.

Bands playing the blues? Get into it. The Coeur d’Alene Blues Festival starts Friday at the Coeur d’Alene Resort, ends Sunday and features many regional artists (Sammy Eubanks, the Fat TonesBakin’ Phat) as well as appearances by Ray Roberson, Curtis Salgado, Big Mumbo Blues Band and more.

Also tonight, Jones Radiator makes way for the never disappointing BBBBandits and Buffalo Jones at about 9 or so. Meanwhile, the Hop! is showing (the very much not fake named) I Hate This City.

SATURDAY
Contrary to what the name of post-punk act Weekend may suggest, the group doesn’t exactly elicit these feelings of “Friday euphoria.” But the three-piece makes up for it with downright fascinating sounds. They’re from San Francisco but now reside in Brooklyn, and their sound reflects that, with the Bay Area’s sonic fogginess infused with Brooklyn’s hipster vision. This weekend, they bring their fuzzed-out shoegaze style to the Bartlett as part of a national tour. The show is $11 the day of and starts at 8 pm. Opening is local instrumental act Hooves, which just released a brand new album, Valley of the Craftsman.

The Big Dipper is open to the public for a KYRS Benefit featuring the local acts Go Man Gos and MC Positive Luv. If anything, go over there to check out the venue. It’s $5 at the door at starts at 7:30 pm.

Note about our story on the Tibetan musicians coming to the Bing Crosby Theater — that show has been canceled.

SUNDAY

Ellis is coming to nYne, Liz Rognes is opening. Minneapolis singer-songwriter Ellis Delaney plays music that’s beautiful, uplifting, joyful and introspective. She’s also part of the RealWomenRealSongs group writing a new song each week of 2014. The nYne show starts at 7:30 pm and is $15.
