As we're fast approaching Halloween, there are a bevy of entertainment options — both costumed and not — available for your perusal in our event listings and Staff Picks. Give 'em a look when you can, and if you have no time, where's a quick guide to some of the week's highlights: 

Monday, Oct. 26

LIVE MUSIC | Monday seems a natural night to delve into a little death metal, and Vital Remains head up a four-band bill at The Pin that will make your ears bleed. Very Halloween-y!

THEATER | At the North Spokane Library, join Ignite! Community Theatre present Shakespeare Selections, a mix of scenes and interactive discussions that bring the Bard to life, at least for an hour. Zombie Shakespeare!

Tuesday, Oct. 27

VISUAL ARTS | The Jundt Art Museum at Gonzaga celebrates its 20th birthday all day long, including some birthday cake at 11 am. So, you know, that would be a good time to drop in, and check out current exhibit "Jesuits in the Arts" while you're there. 

WORDS | Whitworth grad Jena Lee Nardella returns to the school for a free lecture based on her book One Thousand Wells: How an Audacious Goal of Bringing Water to Africa Taught Me to Love the World Instead of Save It. It's based on her experience working with band Jars of Clay in bringing clean water to Africa. 

Wednesday, Oct. 28

WORDS | An Eco-Poetry Panel and Reading at Gonzaga is open to the public and includes poets Paul Lindholdt, Megan Kaminski, Linda Russo, Derek Sheffield, and Roger Dunsmore. The panel is at 2:10 pm, and the reading is at 7:30 pm; hit that link for details on where to find them. 

LIVE BANDS/THEATER | Beats Antique delivers a "concert" performance unlike any other, a mix of music and circus-like acrobatics and performance art that is as visually stimulating as it is pleasing to the ear. They headline at Knitting Factory; here's a little sample: 

Thursday, Oct. 29

FOOD | Emerge, dedicated to promoting the artistic life of Coeur d'Alene, is hosting a Day of the Dead party at The Cellar that includes a chef showdown among local restaurants including The Cellar, Blackbird, Syringa, Moontime, Le Catering and more. 

WORDS | It's time once again for Spokane Is Reading, and this year the community brings in Emily St. John Mandel, author of Station Eleven, for a couple of public book discussions, including one at The Bing. Read our interview with the author here, and get reading!

Friday, Oct. 30

COMMUNITY | Celebrate a bevy of Spokane movers and shakers at the Spokane Arts Awards 2015, a costume ball and great way to pay respects to some of the folks who make life in Spokane worth living. 

PERFORMANCE ARTS | Some incredible athletes will fill the stage at the INB Performing Arts Center as the Shaping Sound dance troupe pays a visit to Spokane. Read more about the group here. 

FILM | Skiers, ready to torture yourselves? It's time for a visit from Warren Miller's latest, Chasing Shadows, playing at The Bing.
