Taylor D. Waring is a heavy metal musician, surrealist poet, Assistant Professor of English, and occult weirdo dwelling in Spokane. He's covered music in Spokane as a freelance writer since about 2020, with a focus on heavy music, including interviews with
Buzz Osborne (the Melvins),
Brendon Small (Dethklok), and a recent
piece on shock rock.
Taylor is from Wisconsin, and received his undergraduate degree in English Literature from University Wisconsin Oshkosh. He moved to Spokane in 2017 to earn his MFA in Creative Writing from Eastern Washington University. Over the years, he's published a fair amount of poetry, some scholarly work on Octavio Paz, and even some photographs from his time touring. He stumbled into music journalism while working as a concert photographer and reviewer for
The Spokesman-Review before transitioning to the
Inlander circa 2022.
