New V'ue -- This just in: There's a new all-ages venue opening up on the live music front -- and it's hosting its very first show this weekend. It's located in the Market Street Market building at 5906 N. Market St., just north of downtown Hillyard, directly across the street from the Hillyard skate park (you all know where that is, right? Right.). Bob Kinyon -- who spent 15 years as a high school band teacher in the Mead school district -- is the sound and light guy. He reports that the new 3,000-square-foot, nonprofit all-ages club will provide teens with free live music events and a safe place to hang out. Snacks and sodas will also be made available for sale. Sounds almost too good to be true, doesn't it? Well, just to make it all official, the club will light it up this Saturday night with performances from a couple of young and hungry local bands, Catalyst and Second Hand. The show starts at 7 pm, runs till 10 pm and won't cost you kids a dime to get in. It seems worth checking out. So giddy up. For more information, call 290-3217.





Another Jackpot! -- Now, what we're about to tell you may shock you, so grab onto something. There are thousands upon thousands of artists who we've never heard here around Inlander HQ. Ones that even our own Maestro Corrigan has never even laid ears on. That said, a lot of times we can vouch for people on their musical resume alone. That's the case with John Vecchiarelli, a Portland-based songwriter and instrumentalist who will play the Shop on Friday, Nov. 12, at 8 pm. The former front man for Sic'em Fifi and punk band Splinter recorded his latest album, Songs from Whoville, at Portland's Jackpot! Records with Larry Crane -- a guy who has recorded Elliott Smith, Sleater-Kinney, the Decemberists and Quasi. So, based on all of this, Vecchiarelli's a sure bet for Friday night fun.
