Fingers crossed crowds like this will be safe come September — when Bloomsday 2020 has been rescheduled — or sooner.
In response to lasting social distancing measures and concerns for public health amid the global coronavirus pandemic, many local events scheduled to occur this spring and early summer have since been rescheduled.
The list is likely to grow as time goes on, but in the meantime, we put together this update on some of the area's largest yearly events that have been moved to new dates later in the year when, hopefully, the threat of the virus has passed and life has returned to a somewhat normal pace. This list doesn't include the dozens of one-time concerts and other events that have been canceled or rescheduled; visit inlander.com/events to catch up on those.
BLOOMSDAY
Always held (until now) on the first Sunday of May, Bloomsday 2020 was one of the first big events to get a new date. The 44th annual 13-kilometer road race across Spokane's streets is now set for Sunday, Sept. 20.
SPOKANE LILAC FESTIVAL ARMED FORCES TORCHLIGHT PARADE
Usually held in mid-May, this annual tradition has been pushed to July 25 for its 82nd year. The 2020 festival and parade theme is "Destination Spokane." While the nighttime parade is the largest of its kind in the nation, organizers expect participation to be a little smaller this summer due to current conditions.
HOOPFEST
Hoopfest organizers have confirmed the three-on-three tournament in downtown Spokane is being moved to the weekend of Aug. 22-23.
TERRAIN'S BAZAAR
The summertime arts market and street fair in downtown Spokane usually happens in mid-June, but is rescheduled for Saturday, Aug. 15. Artists and makers who want to be considered for the juried event can still submit an application through April 26.
THE FARM CHICKS VINTAGE & HANDMADE FAIR
The yearly two-day celebration of vintage, antique and handmade goods at Spokane's fairgrounds has been held on the first weekend of June for more than a decade, but in 2020 — the show's 20th year — it's been moved to Aug. 22-23.
SPOKANE PRINT FEST
This month-long celebration of print arts was originally set to kickoff on April 3, but in light of current affairs, the series of events, gallery shows, workshops and more is now kicking off Nov. 6.
