We Interrupt This Broadcast
For the 70th anniversary of the night when Orson Welles scared the bejeezus out of people, Pullman Civic Theatre is putting on a stage version of what it might have been like in that radio studio in 1938. War of the Worlds will feature freaky sound effects for the Martian spaceships and old-timey commercial breaks. Performances at 7:30 pm through Saturday night. Visit www.pullmancivictheater.org or call (509) 332-8406.
Pie in Our Face
Last week, we failed to give credit for our cover shot of the Obama logo pie to Dean Davis, photographer; Greg Stiles, art director; and Stephanie Blalock, food stylist. It's a memorable image, and we regret the error.
Lone Fir Alumni
Jennifer Johnson of Jennifer's Auto Sales is restoring the Lone Fir One-Room Schoolhouse, and she's searching for former students of the school (aka the Vera Kindergarten Schoolhouse). Built in 1894, the one-room schoolhouse was originally located in the Saltese Meadows area, then moved in the 1940s to its current location at 15020 E. Sprague. Former students should call 926-9353.
Ossificatory
You try spelling an obscure word meaning "related to bone formation" with a couple hundred people staring at you. But with the adult spelling bee title on the line last Sunday, Therese Thompson, Shannon Palomba and Andi Smith did just that. Some other team won -- we forget who -- but the women representing St. Al's School performed, well, astuciously.
