Hangouts

Off campus: The cinema in town, which has three small theaters, is called 24 Frames. Students are also enjoying the new Safeway and running into each other at the China Express (Hey, it's a small town.). Then, of course, there's Showie's, a 21-and-over nightspot that has been around since 1980.

On Campus: The Student Union Building is the main gathering place on campus, featuring different eateries, including Baldy's and Thomas Hammer Coffee. Students also gather to work out in the recreation center, where they can do cross-training or use treadmills.

Events

Every Wednesday night brings "What You See Is What You Get" in the SUB, where a new activity is presented every week. One of the first entertainers on the schedule is a popular hypnotist. The Eastern Eagles football team is expected to be among the best in their division, and they have five home games. Homecoming is the week of Oct. 22-27. It includes a parade, a dance, a bonfire, a pageant, and of course, the Saturday football game against Cal State Northridge.

New in 2001

EWU is expecting the most students in its history, up to more than 9,000 after having only 7,500 in the fall of 1997. On campus, the multi-purpose room, located in the SUB, has a whole new sound system, and the Pathways to Progress Organization is breaking ground from Showalter Hall down to First Street, which will include brick, new benches and garbage cans.
