Rain helps calm wildfires, but also causes flooding
Thunderstorms dumped more than an inch of rain in the region, helping slow the growth of the Colville Reservation William Flats Fire, but also creating flooding so bad that firefighters there had to find places to sleep in the woods because they couldn't hike out, the Spokesman-Review reports. The more than 44,000-acre blaze was about 40 percent contained early Sunday.

Man who killed baby gets 28 years in prison
A Spokane Superior Court judge sentenced Joshua Mobley, convicted of murdering 10-month-old baby Caiden Henry, to 28 years in prison, the Spokesman reports.
