Under normal circumstances, local resorts would welcome any skiers they could lure to the mountains late in the season. These aren't normal circumstances, of course, with people hunkering down for fear of the coronavirus.
Schweitzer Mountain Resort announced today that this would be its final day of the season.
"The latest recommendations from Bonner General Health, Panhandle Health, the CDC, and the rest of the healthcare community have influenced our decision to close the resort. We realize that even if we limit indoor operations to restrooms only and run the lifts, there will be no way we can realistically enforce the latest guidelines discouraging gatherings of 50 or more people," says Schweitzer CEO & President, Tom Chasse, in a statement.
Silver Mountain is currently closed, but as of its latest announcement, it planned to reopen for business on Friday, March 20.
Meanwhile, 49 Degrees North put out an alert yesterday that the mountain will continue to operate Friday through Tuesday, though amenities (like food and drink) will be limited. Lookout Pass is also open, and by the looks of their Facebook page, the mountain had plenty of St. Patrick's Day skiers.
