A state court of appeals ruled against Seattle's proposed "wealth tax" in a lawsuit over its constitutionality. However, the ruling also deemed a longstanding legislative ban on income taxes to be void and deferred on the constitutionality of income taxes, paving the way for a further appeal to the state Supreme Court — a longtime goal of proponents of enacting an income tax in Washington state.
