NEWS: Russell Cornell, Spokane County's former building and code enforcement director, resigned from his position in late May over allegations that he choked a county employee and harassed at least one other.

NEWS: A family whose possessions were confiscated when the city of Spokane shut down Camp Hope — an activist camp aimed at forcing change on homeless issues — is suing the city, claiming the action was illegal because no shelter space was open when the morning eviction took place.

NEWS: An Eastern District Court judge sided with the Spokane Tribe of Indians and ended a case in which the Kalispel Tribe of Indians and Spokane County had argued that the Spokane Tribe should not be allowed to build and operate its casino in Airway Heights.

Spokane Valley unsure about joining in anti-camping rule aimed at homeless people
For fear of the types of lawsuit Spokane is now facing, Spokane Valley leaders are unsure about joining the city of Spokane and Spokane County in banning public camping or living in vehicles, the Spokesman-Review reports.

Fire in Grant County forces evacuations
A roughly 5,000-acre fire that started Sunday afternoon in Grant County continues to burn, as authorities call on residents near what's being called the Powerline Fire are told to be aware and stay out of the area, the Seattle Times reports.
