Fire Chief steps down
Spokane Fire Chief Bobby Williams announced he will retire next year, on Jan. 22. He served for more than 28 years in the department. Assistant Chief Brian Schaeffer will take the role of interim chief while a national search is conducted.
Date rape drugs
Several students at Whitman College in Walla Walla reported symptoms suggesting they were drugged at parties recently, prompting the college to send a warning to the students to take care of each other and report any suspect behaviors. (Seattle Times)
Defamation case
A federal jury has ordered Rolling Stone and the writer who wrote a discredited article about a gang rape at University of Virginia to pay $3 million in damages.
